Blog Post 1

Three qualities I expect from a good book are great details, suspense throughout the story, and the ability to be able to relate the events that take place in the story. Without these qualities I think that stories would be very boring and people would not want to read them. If the story was not detailed then the reader wouldn't be able to fully understand the story. If the story had no suspense then the reader would be able to predict the outcome of events and would get bored of the book very easily. Finally if the reader couldn't relate to anything in the story then the reader wouldn't have that connection to the book that makes them want to keep reading.
Currently I am reading The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, which I believe has all of the qualities a good book should include. Every single sentence has so much detail, no little things are left out. A sentence that stood out to me was the following which described Hazel's oxygen tank. "The cylindrical green tank only weighed a few pounds, and I had that little steel cart to wheel it around behind me. It delivered two liters of oxygen to me each minute through a cannula, a transparent tube that split just beneath my neck, wrapped behind my ears, and then reunited in my nostrils" (Green, The Fault In Our Stars, 8). For only being a oxygen tank, Green provides much more detail so the reader understands the object as much as possible. The story is filled with suspense, health scare, after doctor appointment, after thoughts of death, this story couldn't be any more suspenseful! The characters are relatable even though the main character Hazel has cancer. The events and challenges all the characters face are relatable in multiple ways. Overall this novel contains all qualities I expect a good story to have.
